The Challenge

Sports betting is one of the most restricted advertising categories on the open web. Meta, Google Ads, and TikTok either prohibit betting-adjacent products entirely or impose case-by-case approval gates that make sustained paid acquisition operationally impossible across most US states and EU markets.

OddsGuard's brief was to launch a free browser extension that does for sports betting what Honey did for ecommerce — surface best-available odds across operators in real time. The product is genuinely useful for end users, but the launch channel problem is severe: the consumer behavior the product changes (multi-operator price shopping) is invisible to the operators OddsGuard sits on top of, and the advertising channels that would normally introduce it are closed.

The Strategy

RedPress configured the Premium Plan with a deliberate emphasis on outlets where betting-adjacent products clear editorial filters rather than ad approval queues. Three placement decisions shaped the campaign:

  1. 01
Lead with crypto-credible outlet for category bridge. Binance as the lead premium placement is unconventional for a sports betting tool. The bridge logic: Binance audiences overlap heavily with prediction markets and decentralized betting, and the placement provides category credibility no mainstream consumer outlet can match for a Web3-adjacent betting tool.
  2. 02
Broadcast affiliate concentration for local US visibility. Fox 80, ABC 39 and regional broadcast affiliates carry the launch into geo-targeted US search indexes — critical for a product whose legal availability varies by state. Branded search lift in qualifying states converts; lift in non-qualifying states still builds entity authority for the eventual rollout.
  3. 03
Editorial framing over advertising framing. The release led with consumer-protection language ("price comparison", "free tool") rather than promotional language ("better odds", "win more"). Editorial outlets accepted on the consumer-protection frame what ad networks would reject on the promotional frame.

The Results

The release achieved 518 verified live placements, with all 11 Tier-1 outlets confirmed indexed by end of day two. Cumulative monthly traffic across placement outlets reached 452 million potential impressions, with 34,125 journalist views on terminal feeds during active syndication.

Standard outlets — 507 of the total — included betting industry trade press, fintech aggregators, regional sports media, and consumer technology blogs. Full placement list verifiable in the live distribution report.

What This Means

Why restricted-category products rely on press distribution as a primary channel.

Ad platform restrictions are the channel. When Meta and Google won't run your ads, every alternative consumer-discovery channel matters more. Editorial placement on 11 Tier-1 outlets generates the discovery surface that paid acquisition cannot.

Entity authority for state-by-state rollout. Sports betting legality varies by jurisdiction. A press footprint that establishes brand entity status early means each new legal market launches into existing branded search demand, not from zero.

Crypto-adjacent placement is a category multiplier. Binance audiences overlap with prediction markets, DeFi betting, and Web3-native users. Lead-tier placement on a crypto exchange brings audience signal a mainstream consumer outlet would not.

Methodology

How We Measured

  • Placement count (518) — verified live URLs collected during the distribution window, each independently confirmed for HTTP 200 status and live publication.
  • Premium tier (11) — outlets with editorially independent verification, Tier-1 domain authority profile, and independently audited monthly traffic above 30M unique visitors.
  • Total reach (452M+) — cumulative monthly unique visitors across all placement outlets at time of distribution. Represents potential audience exposure, not measured impressions.
  • Journalist views (34,125) — recorded views on journalist-facing terminal feeds during the active syndication window.
  • Geographic distribution (65+ countries) — derived from the registered country of publication for each placement outlet.

Questions About This Campaign

Press release placements on financial wire and editorial outlets are not subject to the betting advertising restrictions that affect Meta, Google Ads and TikTok. The release reaches consumers through editorial discovery, search and aggregator paths that paid ad networks have closed off for the category.
Sports media outlets tend to reject betting-adjacent products on policy grounds. Binance audiences overlap with prediction markets and Web3-native betting users, and the placement provides crypto-category credibility that mainstream consumer outlets cannot match for a product positioned at the intersection of fintech and sports.
Cumulative potential reach was 452 million across the 518 placement outlets. The 11 premium Tier-1 placements alone account for over 2 billion combined monthly traffic.
Yes, subject to standard editorial compliance review. Betting tools, prediction markets, DFS platforms and Web3-betting products are distributable. Content must comply with applicable advertising standards in target markets.
